Anna is fighting our culture

He is fighting corruption. But it is difficult to think of India and Indians without corruption. Is it only government scams he is fighting against? Because it’s impossible to eradicate corruption. Corruption is our culture - the very fabric of our lives. I could be corrupt; my mama could be corrupt; your chacha could be corrupt; someone’s mother could be blackmailing his/her father to be corrupt. Poor Mr. Lokpal has no chance against this phenomenon. And if by some divine intervention his movement succeeds, it will be hard to recognise ourselves. Despite laws and awareness campaigns, dowry corruption is pretty much a socially accepted practice. Donation corruption is rampant in schools and colleges, be it for nursery class or MBBS admissions. Silly real state sentiments are spiraling prices beyond a common man’s reach, leaving him stressed, insecure and helpless. He has to turn to corruption to stay afloat. Is that corruption of capitalism? Companies make their employees work for 16 hours. Is that not corruption? I call it ‘personal-time scam’, from which they are making billions. When farmers are dying without food, we are talking about 9% economic growth. ‘Corruption of neglect’ anyone? An honest guy I know is often called lallu, because all he can manage to earn is a modest income. Values corrupted? Mithais are adulterated on mass scale in Diwali and other festivals. Pilgrimages are full of hawkers, shopkeepers, phool and prashadwalas, who loot the devotees, making for religious corruption. In south India if you don’t know the local language, auto drivers overcharge you. In Delhi they do that no matter what. What corruption is that? And what do you call million billions of black rupees stashed away in Swiss banks? The list can go on. And on.

  1. Its greed for more. Sad, but more or less everyone is a part of it and even suffers 'coz of this.

But I guess, this has become more of a human nature and is not confined to India or Indians. Greed for power, greed for oil, greed for money and greed for anything that makes you richer and superior.

More, more and more of more, that's the funda.

And with increasing inflation, probably somewhere morals have punctured and deflated...
