The East will rise again

As if the turnaround in Kolkata Knight Riders’ fortune in the ongoing IPL was a harbinger of greater turnarounds, the landslide victory of Mamata Banerjee in the just concluded West Bengal elections augurs well for the resurgence of not only West Bengal but the entire Eastern India. As the only metropolis of the region, it is important that Kolkata takes up the leadership role in steering East to its erstwhile glory. The region has been neglected, abused and pushed into abject lawlessness, poverty and anarchy in the last few decades. There was a time when Calcutta and West Bengal was as strong economically as Bombay and Maharashta. There was a time when Patliputra was the capital of India and the Maurya Empire. With Bihar, Assam, Orissa also showing signs of improvement, thanks to pro-development governments, the day is not far when the sons of the soil will stay with their loved ones and not lead difficult lives miles away in Mumbai and Delhi.
The most important task Mamata has at hand is to handpick bright people to head the ministries. Though not known to be a good administrator herself, having the right minister will ensure the state slowly looses the communist mindset of the state. The ‘dekhte hobe, korte hobe, dite hobe’ slogan has to be replaced by ‘korbo, lorbo, jitbo re’. What say KKR?
